How do we know the God of the Bible is behind creation?

My question is with regard to Godly John’s addressal of agnostic theism. On inspection of a DNA, one can clearly see the results of evolution and can trace back ancestors from a strand of DNA. It is clearly proven that, although the DNA or genome of a person is complex, it can all be formed by years of evolution due to the natural formation of biomolecules that existed on prehistoric earth. 

Also, the chance that the universe was formed, along with the earth in perfect conditions for the sustenance of human life, is very much possible due to random chance. Without any supernatural or divine assistance, there is a chance for the universe to be formed with perfect conditions for human life. 

Can you explain how we rule out all these possibilities and say for sure that God is behind creation? Even if there was a supernatural force which led to the formation of our universe, how do we conclude that that force is the divine power of the God of the Bible?

Thank you for your follow-up to the previous Q&A. That’s a great question to ask. Before I get to the answer, I want to point out a few things: to date, mankind does not know of a verifiable “random” process that can reproduce the kind of biological diversity seen in the world today, let alone bring about the existence of the first living cell. Evolutionary theory is just that: a theory that was proposed to explain what is seen around us. However, if you saw a painting framed and hanging on a wall, would you immediately think it arose out of the ground by chance over millions of years? How much more improbable could a living machine be built by random chance?

Imagine this: science has already established that this world operates according to the laws of thermodynamics and this law dictates that all energy and information deteriorates over time and becomes corrupted. Claims like DNA “can be formed by years of evolution” are not only merely fantastic but statistically impossible. If such a living cell requires both precision in its information design and extremely complex coding in order for its DNA to even direct its basic functions, why would we jump to the conclusion that it was time and chance that built this from scratch? Is there a reason that modern man promotes the idea that chance and time alone are sufficient to build a machine more complex than even the most complex mega computer built by man today?

I suspect it’s because we all know that the only cause than can produce such complexity is a mind, and rather than acknowledging the Creator, modern man would prefer to opt for anything else. Even though there’s substantial evidence from a philosophical and scientific perspective that a designer exists, it doesn’t get considered because modern man prefers answers that do not involve a creator. Ultimately, as Paul says in Romans 1, all mankind knows God exists and, in a vain attempt to run away from the true God, they devised their own idols that they can worship in freedom of their sinful desires.

Which God?

But how do we know it was the God of Israel and not Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Ahura Mazda or any pantheon of gods that man has proclaimed?

It is in His self-revelation. God chose to reveal Himself to mankind as the Triune God and even named Himself for us to know Him personally: YHWH (the name given by God meaning ‘I AM’ or in English ‘Jehovah’) and the most explicit revelation of Himself is not in His speech or in His vision but in the Person of the Son who became the God-man, Jesus Christ. Apostle John says explicitly in John 1:1-3 that Jesus was the Creator of this world!

In many other Scriptures, Jesus is called Lord, YHWH and the Creator of all, but it is by His resurrection that He proves His claim that He alone is the God above all gods and the King before whom all knees will bow down. Run to Him while you can, because as Apostle John goes on to say in John 1:4-5, “In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Jesus commanded creation and it obeyed Him — not because He was a prophet, but because, as He Himself claimed, He was the Creator God. His amazed disciples, who saw this when He rebuked a storm and caused it to fall silent, exclaimed, “What kind of Man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!” (Matthew 8:27).

Let me leave you with this: look at creation around you and, in humility, acknowledge God who gave life to you and all creation. Just as He has said in Job 12:7-10: “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”
